“Explore Opera!” with OPERA San Antonio

OPERA San Antonio provides free, fun, and engaging outreach opportunities for all ages for the community through a range of programs. Here are some highlights of our education programs happening this summer and beyond.
"Explore Opera for Kids!"
Explore Opera for Kids! is an award-winning series that offers gratuitous community concerts at library branches across San Antonio in partnership with the San Antonio Public Library'due south summer reading plan. Through interactive performances designed specially for families, nosotros explore the beauty and storytelling magic of opera.
This summer, OPERA San Antonio returns to live performance at the SAPL with Explore Opera in the Park! The free concert features OSA'southward second class of Apprentice Artists and the Children's Chorus of San Antonio in performances exterior in the beautiful Landa Branch Library grounds. In 2020, cheers to an added partnership with the Opera Club of San Antonio, the "Explore Opera for Kids!" programme came full bloom with the addition of OSA'due south Summer Apprentice Creative person Program. "Explore Opera" in Schoolhouse
OPERA San Antonio's expanded Opera in Schools plan offers teachers admission to the "Explore Opera for Kids!" videos, accompanying worksheets, outreach visit to the schoolhouse, and invitation to a final clothes rehearsal at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts.
The outreach visit consists of a xxx–threescore minute interactive presentation designed to introduce students in grades Yard–12 to opera. Within the programme, singers demonstrate the beauty of opera through engaging live performances while covering a range of relevant topics including: definition of opera both every bit an art class and collaboration, common musical terms including types of singing ensembles and vox types, training to become an opera singer, history of opera, and how composers use music to portray characters within an opera.

"Explore Opera" for Teens
All teens ages 13–19 are invited to join the Teen Opera Club of Texas, hosted by five of the Alone Star Country's leading opera companies: Austin Opera, The Dallas Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Houston Thou Opera, and OPERA San Antonio.
Teens from all over Texas and across accept a risk to socialize and share their love of the arts through company hosted online events. Events include access to opera artists and administrative personnel sharing insights and expertise on a variety of topics including opera performance, production and design, the cosmos of new opera, conducting and the opera orchestra, and then much more. High Schoolhouse Night
Through the generosity of OPERA San Antonio sponsors, high schoolhouse students from across San Antonio are selected to receive Gratuitous tickets to attend a Sat night performance at the opera. Invited schools have the opportunity to participate in a pre-show engagement with cast in costumes and are granted a special glimpse backside the scenes with OSA Full general & Creative Director E. Dress Rehearsal Access
Simple through higher-aged students are invited to nourish the terminal wearing apparel rehearsal for an upcoming production and are offered a glimpse into what goes on backside the scenes. Students are able to encounter the stage managing director and crew work with the artists, orchestra, and tech crew every bit they refine the bear witness for opening night and are invited to a special Q&A session with a cast member.

Madeline Elizondo is an active performer, educator, and advocate for the arts in San Antonio. Equally Education Coordinator for OPERA San Antonio, Madeline has organized gratuitous outreach concerts for the community, created new programs for schools, and established partnerships with other nonprofits throughout the city. Prior to her work with OSA, she served as Adjunct Voice Kinesthesia for San Antonio College for 12 years mentoring at-run a risk students in careers in the arts. Equally a high schoolhouse voice teacher, Madeline guided aspiring young singers through their journeying into higher level instruction. Her hobbies include crafting, gardening, and hosting tea parties. She has a wonderful loving husband who is a ring director for NEISD, two cute children who nourish Great Hearts, a recluse cat named Laney, and a crazy English bulldog named Roscoe.
